Making money with Kroger.

Welcome to this week’s ten minute lesson. This is $10 a week with Troy Price and I am Troy Price. I am the perfect condiment for your sandwich of life. You wouldn’t believe the work I put into last week’s episode. I wrote the script recorded and edited the thing, uploaded the file. But you know, it was so worth it. There was a 40% increase in downloads of the show! Thank you to everybody who listened and then told a friend. The big, big numbers we’re getting will make us as big as a third teir cable show in a major market. That’s what brings in the sponsors and the big bucks. Then I can pour the money into equipment and training and this soon will become the hugest podcast in the world!!! You can say you listened to it back in the early 2000’s and loved it then (you do love it right?) Anyway, I’m going to do something a little bit different this week and spend some time doing a few things at one store, and leveraging the internet to make some good money over the next few months and then a little bit of money over the rest of your life. So sit back, relax, and begin to think about how you can make money while you are grocery shopping. This Episode can best be titled, ‘Making Money with Kroger” That will really make sense once you hear it, so let’s jump into it!

Our regional mega chain of supermarkets is named Kroger and while I will be using the word Kroger a lot over the next 10 minutes. The same programs should be offered at your local supermarket. So try these out regardless of your store.

Let’s cover the big, time sensitive opportunities first. Kroger (insert your own store’s name here) is offering a deal with their gift cards. If you buy a $300 dollar gift card, you get $30 free, or buy a $400 get $40 free and buy a $500 gift card, get $50 free. So there is one way to make money right there – If you have an extra unbudgeted 300, 400 or 500 dollars sitting around your house. However, I’ve put the perks of this program and what I know about Ebay together into a cash machine that should work for you as well. First, make out your list for your weekly needs of your grocerys. And before you start shopping, go to the service desk and buy your $300 Kroger gift card. Put this on your credit card for reasons I will tell you later. Hopefully, you put it on a credit card that is part of a rewards program and you can at least earn $3 just for buying the card. So do your shopping the way you would usually and at the end pay with your newly purchased gift card. Keep your receipt (let’s say as an example you bought $110.15 cents worth of groceries), you want to know the balance left on your card ($219.85). And when you get home and after you put your groceries away, head straight to your computer. Fire up Ebay and list your card on ebay as a Kroger gift card with a balance of whatever. Here is why. Step one, I was just on ebay and there was not one Kroger gift card listed on ebay, so what we have is a niche. It seems that only listeners of this podcast are going to do this, so if someone wants to save money on the gift card, they will come to you! Secondly, a slightly used, card, one with a balance that is not even makes a higher percentage at auction than a nice round 330, 440 or 550 card. So a card with a 221.34 cent balance could earn you back something like 98% while a 330 card would only earn you back 94-6%. The mentality is that the buyer feels like they are getting something from someone that is trying to get rid of something they do not want rather than someone who is into selling something on the internet solely to make money (which you actually are) Anyway it works. So list the card for a 5 day auction. And sit back and watch. And here’s the risky part. What the auction brings is what you get in your pocket so you might get up to something like 208 bucks, Since you already spend over 110 on groceries, you will make something like 18 on that transaction. You immediately pay off the credit card balance and pocket the rest. You can do this every week and make something like 80 a month – that’s a cable bill, or a water bill or fun money for a big night on the town… All for very little work.

Next, let’s get some green by going green with Kroger… File this under, pennies makes dollars because, if you use Kroger’s new canvas bags to take your groceries home, you will save 4 cents per bag you reuse, so while that’s hot a huge savings saving 4 cents per bag for each trip will add up for multiple bags for multiple trips. The kicker is the price of the bag as of today is 99 cents… Now, I am going to share how to get your self two bags for free! The first is sign up for a new Kroger frequent shopper card. Even if you have an old one, re-sign-up on your new card. On your new card will be a coupon for a free canvas reusable bag good for 4 cents every time you use it. Now, if you want another one, google, Kroger canvas bag design contest. If you submit a design, mine simply said go green at Kroger, and you get another canvas bag good for 4 cents every time you use it credited to your frequent shopper card! So, do check that out if you save 8 cents a week for the rest of your life, it could add up to over $200!

Lastly, that Kroger card can help you save for College. There is a lesser used program connected to Upromise where you connect your Kroger card to your upromise account and it sometimes doubles the amount that you save through upromise. So check that out! And boom, you’ve made and saved some real money by shopping at Kroger and by using the internet! Tune in next week to hear how you can make and save money by watching TV. Kidding, I’m only kidding. But hey, I might check into that…
